HutchWhere ever you go, our network follows“, goes the caption of the telecom company Hutch. It was made symbolic with a dog following a boy wherever he goes. Hutch was more famous after that particular advertisement with the general public. The concept of a company advertising themselves to the public is very synonymous with very creative advertisements. The company becomes famous more for the caption it has for its product than the advertisement itself. General public instantly identifies the company or product with the caption it keeps. Like we have LG’s “Life’s Good“, Jockey’s “The next best thing to V naked“, Nokia’s “Connecting People” or Infosys’s “Powered by intellect, Driven by values“. All these captions or slogans reflect the work and the principles of the company.

Giving captions, which is both creative and useful to the product is not an easy work. Imagine captioning every thing that comes their way and not falling below the standards. Quite a task. These ad guru’s are really a good thinking lot. Putting aside the praising of these guys, a caption should be something that should be an ear candy and not like some of the captions we get to see on a few occasions.

Every movie, which is being released these days, is carrying a caption with it. Its like these movies are being defined in a more detailed way with the help of the captions. The captions need not necessarily define the crux of the movie. It can also be added as a humour element. Most of the time, a caption helps in deciding what the whole movie is about. Like if the name of the movie were something related to the guy who is not very well off financially, the caption would be saying as the person rich in good deeds. What is more apparent and amusing is that the movie name would be in one language and the caption in another or vice versa. The whole purpose of the caption goes away.

We do have slogans given out by many famous political personalities forLal Bahadur Shashtri their campaigning to impress upon the people what exactly they want to do if they were to be elected. Like Lal Bahadur Shahstri raised the slogan Jai Jawan Jai Kisan. Indira Gandhi preferred the Gareebi Hatao slogan. Recently, Mayawati went for Vote Hamara Raaj Tumhara Nahi Chalega Nahi Chalega slogan. These slogans eventually become famous with that particular politician.

Caption is a text, which explains the purpose of a particular thing. One more interesting thing about captioning is that a caption is presented in least number of words but saying a lot out of it by usage of one-liners, which has so much meaning in them. The moment the viewer reads the caption he should be able to understand what the product is all about.

Is captioning a product that necessary for its success? A product does not become famous all because it has a great caption. But on the contrary, a caption gets recognition only after the success of the product. If it is like that, why do the captioning part given so much importance? May be a creative caption does ensure the viewers to start taking notice of the product but the future hold of the product on the market depends upon its performance. So, captioning can be referred to as a booster to the product during its infant stage in the market.

With the on going trend, it seems the marketing world is following the motto, “Capture the market with a Caption”. It comes as no surprise what with every product that is being introduced needs some thing to boosts its sales and captioning comes as a good option.
