It’s a known fact that superstitions and grandmothers go hand in hand. But if you thought only grandmothers have affinity towards superstitions then you better have a reality check as more and more students are believing in all sorts of superstitions to make it big in their exams. With books finding hard to beat, students are finding temples and masjids for wisdom. And if going to temple is a normal chore, then how about having puja performed everyday before the exam!

More over restricting oneself to not to kill any animal (read as insects) before an exam to have a clear and pure conscience is really out of this world. Can you leave mosquitoes just to bite you to any extent?. If it was like this, then everyone would have been a topper and the proverb “There’s always room on the top” might lose its relevance. Another superstition that is having its presence felt in the student circle is not speaking either before the exam or after the exam so that something bad may come out of their mouth. In the words of some great people this attitude might well be termed as negative attitude.

Believe it or not colours and clothes have a very big say during the exam times. We find students clad in a particular coloured dress on all the exam days or wearing the same dress for all the exams without washing them. On top of it we find students not shaving their beard for all the days or not having bath for all the exams days. Reason given apart from th obvious superstition is that there is no real time for that. What!!! The only result of this adventure is that you tend to make yourself not only look but also feel gloomier and it can have an affect on your performance and this is certainly not a superstition. Carrying same pencil box for all the exams is also very common among most of the students. Many students, apparently, follow going through the same route or parking the vehicle in the same place everyday also. Term it as funny or shocking, superstitions always feature in every student’s preparation for their exams.

We even see toppers following these kind of superstitions like every one. Negative attiude also is one of the most important aspect in making people believe in superstitions. Is low on confidence in one ’s self, the reason to follow these superstitions or is it confidence that these superstitions work that compels one to follow them? What ever may be the reason, the ultimate effect is that superstitions donot make you a topper. One thing that is generally forgotten but is very essential is that success comes through belief and perseverence to make it big. This, every student has to make note of and up till then, its superstitions all the way.
