Pursuit Of Happyness
Misc April 17th, 2007
The next few moments after the movie ‘The Pursuit Of Happyness’ got over and I was coming out of the theatre I felt happiness in me. I felt as if the world around me is happy. Every guy around me was visibly happy for some reason or the other. I felt I am alive to be as happy. I don’t know how Will Smith felt when he was enacting the little part of his story where in he gets the job in the broker firm, but I felt happiness around me. I felt the happiness in seeing Will Smith happy with his achievement. I felt how great it would be to be happy. But what does make one happy? For what reasons can we be happy?
We feel happy not only for big things but small incidents also bring us so much happiness. Small achievements like mending the fence to make your father happy, cooking for your wife, helping an old lady cross the road, giving clothes to orphans, celebrating festivals with street children etc. These things give happiness to you and to all those people whom you made feel happy. We feel the sense of satisfaction that we made some one happy. That happiness is something, which cannot be traded with. That happiness which is pure and clean and has nothing to do with our present world, which is run by powerful and commercial people.
Happiness is a state of mind where we forget all our problems and feel we have no problems in this world and in our life. I am not talking about the happiness we feel when we are relieved of some tension. That happiness has selfishness in it. The happiness we see on the face of little street children when given a piece of bread or for that matter the happiness visible on the face of orphans when they are adopted and expect better life. This is that side of happiness where in we find no selfishness, no jealousy. That happiness can be savoured in true and good sense only.
The feeling we have when we are about to help someone with out their knowledge and how they will feel after knowing it is a great feeling.. The feeling of happiness can be experienced in many ways. The happiness you get when you pass your exam, the happiness you have when you get the bus you wanted in the middle of hot summer afternoon, the happiness you get when you find your loved ones after getting lost in a fair, the happiness you get when you find that your wife has delivered a baby boy/girl, the happiness you get when your country wins the World Cup. These feelings make us feel like living our life for few more years. These feelings make us believe in this world.
The happiness felt by the father because his son is happy in itself shows how much the parents work hard just to see their children happy. Just the thought that their children will feel happy if they are given a gift will make any parent in this world happy. Parents round the world live only for this happiness. The mere fact that their children are with them makes them feel secure and happy. It’s no wonder that they want to live with their children all their life.
Sacrifice is another reason which can lead to happiness. Ask the person who gave a sacrifice and the happiness he feels can’t be described. Many great persons have laid down their lives for our freedom. They sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the future generation. I often think how these great people would have felt if they were alive when India got freedom? But the mere fact that they knew this would happen and for that sake they sacrificed their lives leaves me spell bound. Sacrifice of not only lives but also sacrifice of your wealth and time for charity also leads to great happiness.
Whenever you go to any Home for old people you find so many old people content with their life. They are happy to be with people they love and get loved. The feeling of losing their own children never strikes them. Who want to be sad when they have all the time in the world to enjoy all those gone years? The happiness they share is that of mutual one. That happiness of one inmate is interrelated to all other inmates. Each one of them is happy being with other.
Whatever heights we reach in our life, we always want happiness to be present in our life. We want happiness in every thing we do. Mr. Bill Gates or a street beggar, every one lives only if there is happiness in their life. Every one wants happiness to be a part of their life. Happiness or happyness, it doesn’t matter. What matters is at every point of our life the pursuit for happiness continues.
Yours Always,
